Overview

Welcome to Sixth Grade!

Although beginning middle school can seem daunting, the middle school team supports students in making the transition as seamless as possible.  Sixth grade is an exciting time both academically and socially.  Students become more independent and learn to better manage time and resources.  Organization is a key element of a successful start, and students are supported in the development and honing of those skills.  Although the middle school schedule differs from their previous elementary experience, sixth graders quickly adjust to multiple teachers, lockers, and a rotating schedule.  They have opportunities to participate in special events and programs, service activities, and may hold leadership positions.

A typical morning consists of homeroom and devotion and the core classes of language, science and social studies.  Students begin their afternoons with either Course I or pre-algebra, and continue with various resources and electives including art, music, library, computers, physical education, health, novel study, cooking, sewing, sign language, creative writing, geography, Spanish, public speaking, research skills, study skills, conflict management and Bible.  Several resource blocks change quarterly, so students are always learning something new!  Most importantly, however, students are welcomed in to the middle school community, regardless of where they have attended school previously, and each becomes a valued member of the family!
