About Kindergarten

Gloria Dei Lutheran School Kindergarten program is a comprehensive introduction to the core subjects, with particular emphasis on language arts and math.

Our math curriculum is Abeka-based, supplemented with classroom activities to reinforce concepts learned throughout the year, with regular review and real-life application. Topics include, but are not limited to, counting and writing numbers, 2-d and 3-d shapes, positional concepts, ordinal numbers, calendar and time, coins, addition, subtraction, graphing, and measurement.

Within our language arts curriculum we spend time on each letter of the alphabet, starting with the letters most commonly seen in reading. As we learn more letters, we begin blending the sounds together to make words. Our language arts curriculum includes, but is not limited to, comprehensive letter books, read-aloud stories, sight words, writing (to include handwriting) activities, and spelling.

Throughout each day, we are also learning how to do school and socialize, solve problems, and other developmentally appropriate life skills!

In addition to homeroom lessons, all kindergarteners attend resource classes art, science, library, computers, Spanish, music, p.e., and chapel.
